Bifurcation lesion: Association between geometric changes after stenting and clinical outcomes
Author: Danny Dvir, MD, Rabin Medical Center, Tel Aviv, Israel
INTRODUCTION
- The treatment is technically challenging.
- There is a continuous debate regarding optimal treatment?
- The bifurcation is a complex 3-dimensional geometric structure.
- Bifurcation angle may affect the outcome after stenting.
- Geometric changes after stenting may affect the clinical outcomes
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the relationship between bifurcation angle changes after intervention [Two BMS] and clinical outcome.
CONCLUSION
- With major limitation of small # pts
- Our preliminary results suggest that major geometric changes* after bifurcation stenting may be associated with increased risk of TVR.
- It seems that bifurcation stenting techniques that cause less morphological changes should be preferred.
- Future studies should evaluate this hypothesis in a large group of patients including the use of DES.
