Everolimus vs sirilmus eluting stents for bifurcation
Author: Manuel Pan, MD, Reina Sofia Hospital, Sevilla, Spain
BACKGROUND
- Simple approach or provisional SB stenting is the current preferred strategy for the percutaneous treatment of bifurcation lesions.
- The outcome of patients treated with this strategy may be influenced by the type of drug eluting stent implanted at main vessel.
- The metal platform of the stent is deformed when SB is dilated; the polymer may be damaged; and the drug may be unevenly distributed.
AIM
To compare the efficacy of sirolimus- and everolimus-eluting stents in patients with bifurcation lesions treated by provisional side branch stenting.
CONCLUSION
In patients with bifurcation lesions, no significant differences in clinical outcome at 1-year follow-up were observed between sirolimus and everolimus-eluting stent groups.
