FUTURE GOAL #1: BENCH

Refine computer and in-vitro simulations by using:

  • Realistic coronary geometries (e.g. CT, 3D IVUS, 3D OCT)
  • Realistic wall properties (e.g. elasticity)
  • Realistic blood properties (e.g. pulsatile flow)
  • Realistic materials (e.g. stent, balloon geometry and material)

FUTURE GOAL #2: ANIMAL STUDIES

Use large animal models (e.g. swine) to assess the effect of mechanical interventions on vascular biology:

  • Inflammation
  • Stent restenosis
  • Stent thrombosis

FUTURE GOAL #3: CLINICAL STUDIES

Need for randomized clinical trials comparing stent geometries and stenting techniques in terms of stent thrombosis and restenosis
