BRS in bifurcations (1)

Bioresorbable Scaffolds in Bifurcations-Bench Studies

Author: John Ormiston, Professor, University of Auckland School of Medicine, Interventional Cardiologist, Auckland New Zealand

SUMMARY

  • Dilatation through the side of an Absorb BRS causes distortion
  • Corrected by mini-KBPD
  • At 14 atmos 2mm balloons did not fracture struts in 3.0 or 3.5 scaffolds
  • With 3.0mm scaffolds, 22% of 3.0mm balloon inflations 14 atmos caused fracture • For SB dilatation, fracture threshold is 10 atm (3.0mm scaffold, 3.0mm balloon) • Distortion best corrected by mini-KBPD
  • Fracture threshold for mini-KBPD is 5 atm (3.0mm scaffold, 3.0mm balloons)
  • Best provisional SB strategy is probably “T” with metal stent
