SESSION 5: Side Branch Clinical Relevance: Toward a New Bifurcation Definition?
Side-branch diameters from an atlas of 300 patients
Author: Dr Susann Beier
BACKGROUND
- After PCI increased risk if side-branch (SB) is occluded (~ 5% of patients)
- Potential ischaemic myocardium affected depends on SB calibre
- Atlas of population shape can provide insights myocardium at risk
CONCLUSION
- If the myocardial region at risk is significant (~20% of the myocardial), then restoration of full blood flow through the SB should become a PCI focus
- % infarct was always significant in a large population
- This indicates that the SB should always be restored
