STENT LONGITUDINAL DISTORSION DURING LEFT MAIN STENTING

Stent longitudinal distortion during left main stenting prevention and treatment conclusion

Author: Olivier Darremont, Clinique St Augustin, Bordeaux, France

CONCLUSION

On OCT, findings of Longitudinal stent deformation are:

  • Cross-section: Stacked (overlap), Overhanging struts, Malapposition, unequal distribution of struts and disrupted stent circularity
  • Longitudinal assessment: Shortening of stent length
  • 3D-reconstruction is useful to judge stent distortion/ deformation
  • In general, OCT is very accurate in stent length measurement (Accuracy -0.13%, precision 5.86%), so that it is reliable to evaluate longitudinal shortening of stent (>10%).
  • Due to the engagement of catheter in LM, stent deformation in proximal LM may be overlooked on OCT.
