SMS TECHNIQUE (side, main, side)
The implanted stent is selected using the distal main branch (MB) reference diameter, then
Side branch balloon angioplasty is performed with a balloon selected according to its own diameter (S).
Another balloon, selected according to the proximal main branch reference diameter, is inflated proximally and at the carinal region (M).
Final balloon angioplasty of the side branch (S).
CONCLUSION
The SMS technique provides optimal apposition of the stent at the proximal segment of the MB.
In addition it may provide correction of the stent deformation under the SB origin.
