Should we pre-dilate the side branch? YES – (for true bifurcation lesions)

Author: Dr Angela Hoye, Kingston-upon-Hull, UK

CONCLUSION

For the treatment of true bifurcation lesions, pre-dilation of the side-branch should be undertaken:

  1. To assest how the lesion will behave
  2. To optimise subsequent stent expansion
  3. May also facilitate subsequent re-wiring
  4. To better evaluate the most appropriate stunting strategy
  5. To reduce the potential for ischaemia during the procedure thereby improving comfort for the patient
