The impact of bifurcation stenting techniques on the clinical events: the stratified analysis of 2,510 bifurcated lesions according to MADS classification in the GLOBAL LEADERS trial

Author: Patrick W. Serruys, MD PhD, Imperial College London, United Kingdom

OBJECTIVES

  1. To assess the feasibility of an e-CRF dedicated to bifurcation treatment based on the MADS classification
  2. To investigate the clinical impact of bifurcation stenting techniques according to the MADS classification in the largest, ever made multinational stent randomized trial to date.

CONCLUSION

  • Standardization of bifurcation treatment using a dedicated e- CRF based on the MADS classification (As recommended by the EBC) was feasible in the larger stent randomized trial.
  • Two or more stent strategy was associated with higher rate of TVR and definite or probable ST at 2 years compared to single-stent strategy in patients with bifurcation lesion and would benefit from a monotherapy with ticagrelor
  • Crush stenting was associated with a trend(non significant) towards lower incidence of TVR and ST compared to other two-stent techniques in patients treated with two-stent strategy.
