SUMMARY

What we think we know:

  • The mechanical behavior of balloon is entirely elastic
    • NO – balloon and polymer are elastoplastic (and viscoelastic)
  • Reproducible from one inflation to another (iterative balloon inflation)
    • NO – balloon elastoplas1city induces, amer each inflation, a systematic increase in the diameter of the balloon
  • The curve provided by the manufacturer is accurate
    • NO – balloon diameters are systematically below the theoretical curve of the manufacturer during the first inflation (deployment of the balloon)
  • Modern balloons are equivalent from one manufacturer to another NO
